Marc Fleischmann is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cloud Operations at NetApp, where he drives the company’s strategic initiatives in cloud innovation. A focus of his role involves leveraging AI and ML-driven optimizations to continuously and predictively adapt workloads to shifting market demands.

Prior to joining NetApp, Marc served as the Cloud Chief Technology Officer at VMware from 2020 to March 2024. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing compute, storage, and management across all verticals. His leadership was instrumental in driving innovation and efficiency in VMware’s cloud platform and services.

Marc’s entrepreneurial acumen is exemplified by his tenure as CEO and Founder of Datera, a pioneering company in autonomic, AWS-like elastic block storage and data services for tier-1 clouds. His vision and expertise positioned Datera as a prominent player in the cloud storage industry before its acquisition by VMware.

Earlier in his career, Marc held executive positions at Microsoft, Pixelworks, and Transmeta, where he contributed to significant advancements in technology and product development. He began his career at Hewlett-Packard Labs, focusing on autonomic operating and storage systems, setting the foundation for his future endeavors in the tech industry.

Marc holds both B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and is an inventor with numerous patents in software and microprocessor technologies.
