PRECISE Center affiliated faculty member Lama A. Al-Aswad, MD, MPH is a board-certified ophthalmologist with specialties in glaucoma and cataracts, Professor of Ophthalmology and the Irene Heinz Given and John LaPorte Given Research of Professor of Ophthalmology II Professor of Ophthalmology at Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. At Scheie, she serves as Vice Chair for Quality and Safety and Director of Teleophthalmology, AI and Innovations. Outside her academia appointments, Dr. Al-Aswad is the CEO of Envision Health Technologies and CEO of Visi Health Technologies.
Dr. Al-Aswad previously was Professor of Ophthalmology, Population Health, and Vice Chair for Innovation at NYU Langone Health and served as past President of the NY Glaucoma Society and the Women in Ophthalmology. She is also the founder and past President of the New York Chapter of Women in Ophthalmology. As a member-at-large of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s annual meeting secretariat and program committee and a member at-large of the American Glaucoma Society, she is an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds an appointment with the FDA as a voting member on the ophthalmic device panel. She serves on the ophthalmology glaucoma and ophthalmology science editorial boards and as a section editor for the subspecialty of AI, Big Data and telemedicine in ophthalmology for the Asia Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology.
